Name of the Organisation | Toolib, CEO: Guillaume Boulaton |
Target group addressed | People with any kind of disabilities |
How can the GP be replicated? | By creating a detailed database of accommodations with comprehensive information about accessibility features in other countries. |
How does it contribute to SMART II? | It is an online platform that enhances inclusivity and accessibility for tourism. Toolib is a digital tool, using other digital tools to help people with any kind of disabilities plan their journey and find the right accommodation for their stay. |
How can it be transferred? | Other countries could develop a similar platform or application so that all accessible accommodation providers can register on the platform. |
Short description | Created in 2018, Toolib aims to offer people with disabilities the opportunity to travel and find “comfort bubbles” shared by other users of the platform. Very often, people with disabilities offer their homes during their own holidays, but there are also many able-bodied gîte owners who want to adapt their accommodation. To date, 2,700 people have travelled through Toolib in around 1,000 properties throughout France. |
Long description | The platform works like any other booking site. The user enters the desired destination, the date of arrival and departure and the number of guests. Then it is on to the details. Users are asked what type of disability they have, and can choose between motor or sensory disability, then choose from a list of 12 types of motor disability and 3 types of sensory disability. Once this has been chosen, the user must enter their specific needs. There are a huge number of them, based on the type of disability chosen earlier. These specific needs are in fact the characteristics of the accommodation, what the user would like to have available, or on the contrary, would not like. The user may wish to have no carpets, a particular bed height, a water mattress, support bars, and so on and all of this can be requested. The algorithm makes it possible to ask the right questions that are non-intrusive and non-stigmatising to understand the person’s specific needs. All accommodations are examined by occupational therapists. The Toolib team checks that the accommodation, photos and adaptations are in compliance, and ensures that there are no obstacles to disrupt the journey. |
