SAN SEBASTIAN WEBSITE

Name of the Organisation
City of San Sebastian
Target group addressed
Tourists with a physical disability
How can the GP be replicated?
Other cities can create a website to highlight their accessibility, thus simplifying the task of organising the travel and its activities for people with disabilities. They can also develop a WhatsApp line to provide information and use NaviLens.
How does it contribute to SMART II?

San Sebastian uses multiple digital tools to ensure accessibility in the city. They promote and highlight how inclusive they are through their website, they use WhatsApp for assistance, promote its trained staff on Youtube and they also use NaviLens throughout the city. They created accessible routes of the city on Google My Maps to ensure the tourists with disabilities could visit the city relaxed.

How can it be transferred?

Other cities could easily use all the tools San Sebastien uses and create a similar website.

Short description

Users can find information about the degree of accessibility offered by tourist services and attractions. The website targets different groups, such as people with reduced mobility, vision, and hearing problems, and neurodivergence, and is constantly being refined for improvement. On the website they have a whole page that focuses on accessibility, with a youtube video, a whatsapp number that works as a tourist assistance, a guide to organise a trip if one has a disability and so on.

Long description

On the website, there is a YouTube video. It begins with wheelchair users playing basketball,we also see a person ordering at a bar using sign language and a blind person walking through the city enjoying a classical music concert. The wheelchair user collects his key from a hotel reception desk and has access to a room adapted to his needs. The deaf couple visit a museum with a specialist guide and we see that the blind woman is using the NaviLens app, which means that the city has installed QR codes to help her find her way around. The video highlights many different disabilities and places them in a wide range of tourist activities, in front of professionals who are trained to receive them. The website lists accessible places, activities and beaches, as well as solutions put in place to make public spaces and transport more inclusive. The city has also set up a WhatsApp number. It works as a tourist assistance prepared to serve people with functional diversity and the elderly.

There are also 5 accessible routes through the city that include key tourist points. These itineraries were created using Google My Maps and one can follow them on Google Maps. These routes allow people to discover the city and its key points knowing for sure that the itineraries will present no obstacle to anyone.
