SEVILLE ACCESSIBLE APP

Name of the Organisation
Spanish government and the European Union
Target group addressed
Citizens and tourists with or without any special accessibility needs
How can the GP be replicated?
The digital tool could be used by other destinations to create similar applications.
How does it contribute to SMART II?

The app combines information about accessibility and mobility in real time and allows for greater awareness of how crowded a public space is. This guarantees better itineraries for people with special needs who cannot deal with or have difficulty moving around crowded spaces.

How can it be transferred?

This application is a good example of how to use digital tools for accessibility and inclusion. The Seville Accessible App can inspire the development of similar apps in other destinations.

Short description

On the Seville Accessible App, citizens and tourists share information that will be analysed by AI tools to establish accessible routes between neighbourhoods. The application is multi-platform and multi-language and combines information about accessibility and mobility in real time, allowing for a better awareness of the state of public space to plan accessible itineraries. The application also offers audio guides and guided tours available in several languages for people to explore the resources of the city.

Long description

Sevilla Smart Accessibility Tourist & Events is a project that focuses on the improvement of accessibility through ICT-based (Information and Communication Technology) actions. This uses Geographic Information System technology and artificial intelligence tools for accessibility management and decision making. The Geographic Information System is a computer system that analyses and displays geographically referenced information. It uses data that is attached to a unique location, and the AI analyses and processes all information by establishing corrective actions and designing accessible routes. These accessible routes are shared with citizens and tourists on the Seville Accessible App and allow for better awareness of the state of public space, being able to plan accessible itineraries, have updated tourist information or simply know the situation of unsure road conditions. During certain events such as La Feria de Abril, Seville is changing and some public spaces are crowded and it is difficult to navigate through them. Thanks to the application, people with special needs can avoid these spaces and still be provided with an accessible route to their neighbourhoods. The application helps those with limited mobility to plan their route and avoid any obstacles they may encounter while exploring the city. The app has analysed and integrated 22.000 elements from 781 kilometres of routes into its map. It is easy to create a route, users plot the start and end point of their trip and then filter based on their mobility needs and preferred mode of transport. The app will generate an itinerary to facilitate one’s mobility and take away any unnecessary stress. Moreover, the app is a live tool so users can report incidents and update the information to improve the overall experience.
