Name of the Organisation | The National Archaeological Museum of Taranto |
Target group addressed | Blind people or people with a visual disability |
How can the GP be replicated? | Other museums could offer tactile paths for blind people so that they can enjoy the discovery of the works of art through touch. |
How does it contribute to SMART II? | This path allows them to experience the museum’s exhibits through touch, enhancing accessibility and inclusivity. They can touch the works of art thanks to 3D replicas. |
How can it be transferred? | Other museums could use 3D printings to recreate some pieces and allow the public to touch them so that blind people can discover and navigate the museum like any other person would. |
Short description | The National Archaeological Museum of Taranto offers tactile paths for the blind and people with a visual disability. Tactile itineraries and sessions for the blind and visually impaired are run by specialised personnel. |
Long description | They are experimenting with the use of LED light signals to activate Li-Fi technology and return personalised content about the collection. Li-Fi technology uses access points within the exhibition space, creating a network that delivers multimedia content and interactive experiences directly to visitors. They offer tactile paths for blind or visually impaired people thanks to 3D replicas of some works of art. It is a sensory path designed specifically for blind people with supports dedicated to this purpose. The purpose was to tell stories thanks to musical instruments, perfumed oils, spices and 3D reproductions of some works exhibited in the halls of a laboratory the “Fab Lab” and some works that are parts of the temporary exhibition “touches its curves”. For this purpose, it was decided to introduce new technology at the MArTA capable of making the multimedia contents associated with the works on display accessible, making them accessible to all with ad hoc content for the various visitor targets. The aim is to break down all types of barriers, allowing access to visitors with disabilities, such as deaf or blind people. |
