How can the GP be replicated? | A list for accessible places should not really exist, as every place should be accessible to all. However, as improvements are made and more places are made more accessible over time, this list can motivate places to start the process of putting the necessary changes in place. |
How does it contribute to SMART II? | They provide a list of places that have found a way to make their beaches accessible to all. |
How can it be transferred? | All cities with tourist-friendly beaches should review their accessibility and look for ways to improve it. Working with organisations like Discapnet can help ensure a better experience for all. |
Short description | The Discapnet portal updates this guide with official data from City Councils, tourism offices, and associations, where the various beaches of the Spanish coast are located, as well as completing it with data from the Red Cross and other online sources. |
Long description | The Discapnet guide is a detailed guide to accessible beaches so that people with a disability have equal access and are not restricted by physical and social barriers. The guide goes beyond simply providing ramps or adapted facilities, as a truly accessible beach is characterised by creating a welcoming and safe environment that meets the needs of all people, regardless of ability. That is why they have created a guide that takes into account the needs of all people. For example, the beach has an adapted sports area, special lifeguards, NOVAF machines, chairs and amphibious crutches, visual and acoustic aids for people with sensory impairments. Not all beaches have the same features, so the list is very specific to those that have implemented all possible elements correctly and offer a truly accessible experience for all. |
